Savanna Terry Davis was a second-grade teacher at Vinemont Elementary who passed away from complications due to COVID on September 23, 2021. Savanna was born to be a teacher. Savanna began her journey to become a teacher in the Fall of 2016, after graduating from Vinemont High School. While pursuing her degree in education, Savanna was fortunate to be able to work at the elementary school as a PE aide and intervention teacher. She loved working with the students. Savanna was very passionate about providing each student with the materials and tools they would need to succeed in their academics, often taking time before and after school as well as weekends to prepare materials that would help them learn. Savanna not only cared about the students academically, but she also cared for them on a personal level. She loved her students and loved teaching them. She would often tell the students in her intervention classes that she loved them and to always make good choices. The students became so used to her saying this that if she failed to tell them this, they would say it to her.

Savanna graduated from Athens State College in May of 2021 with her degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Educational Technologies. Shortly after she was hired at Vinemont Elementary as a 2nd grade teacher. Her passion for teaching once again showed as she prepared her classroom and materials for the upcoming year. Savanna had a bulletin board in her classroom that said, “Be a Rainbow In Someone Else’s Cloud”. It was her goal to not only teach her students the necessary academic skills to succeed but also the skills needed to be successful on personal levels. Savanna was a rainbow in our lives as well as her students. Sadly, Savanna was only able to live her dream of being a teacher for a short period. The day she passed one of her former intervention students said,” Mrs. Davis went to Heaven to teach the little angels”.

A memorial scholarship was established in Savanna’s honor. This scholarship will go to a Vinemont High School student who is pursuing a degree in education. In addition to the High School Scholarship, Vinemont Elementary awards a Savanna Terry Davis Pinnacle Award at the end of the year.
